This luminous Pattachitra presents Mahaganapati—Ganesha with numerous arms—seated before a midnight field pricked with constellations. The artist layers an ebony ground with showers of conch-white dots, then nestles the deity within a cusped arch studded by lotus bands, beaded garlands, and miniature guardians. The many hands hold classical attributes—modaka, ankusha, pasha, parashu—while one palm faces the devotee in abhaya mudra. A diadem, filigreed jewelry, and checked textiles glint through hairline white hatching, the signature rekha that gives Pattachitra its metallic lace. At the plinth, musicians and attendants mirror the rhythm of the border, turning ornament into procession.

Executed with natural pigments on a hand-sized, tamarind-primed cotton support, the painting balances saturated planes with whisper-thin detailing. The black field deepens color, so coral pinks, indigo blues, and turmeric yellows vibrate like enamel. While the surface bursts with pattern, the geometry is resolute: a central axis, echoing arches, and symmetrical register bands keep the composition devotional rather than decorative. Framed with a generous off-white mount, it reads contemporary in any interior yet retains the sanctity of a portable shrine. Durable, archival, and entirely handmade, this work anchors foyers, pooja alcoves, and reading nooks with the auspicious presence of the remover of obstacles.
